Wash your laundry in cold water.

 Washing in cold water uses 90% less energy than hot.  If everyone in the U.S. washed 4 out of 5 loads in cold water rather than hot, we’d prevent about 50 million tons of carbon emissions a year -- equivalent to taking 10 million cars off the road.
