Community INVITED TO APRIL 2 OPEN HOUSE
Saturday, April 2, 2011
10:00 – 12:00
Athol Public Library
568 Main Street, Athol, MA
The public is invited to attend a library Open House on Saturday, April 2, from 10:00 am – noon.
Please come to the Open House to check out your public library building and see how a renovation and expansion can improve our town and library.
· Ask all your questions and look at preliminary drawings of the proposed renovated library.
· See what is possible, and what we can provide for our community, our children, and our grandchildren.
There will be refreshments, walk-around magic with Ed the Wizard, a book sale benefiting the Friends of the Library, games, prizes, tours of the building, a raffle, a craft project for all ages, and, of course, books, magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks!
Library service in Athol dates all the way back to 1830. The front portion of the library was built in 1916, and the “new” addition went up in 1965. (It is older than half the library staff!)
The proposed renovation will provide for a dedicated teen space, complete handicapped accessibility, energy efficiencies, meeting and conference rooms for the public to use after hours, and expanded children’s library with more program and play space, climate controlled storage for our irreplaceable local history collection, and more seating and computers, as well as more efficient lobby, circulation desk and work areas. The proposed new design will also provide for almost twice as many parking spaces.
The town of Athol is in line to receive 60% of the cost of the renovation project as a grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners! This is an incredible savings and a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Visit the Athol Public Library during the Open House on April 2, have some snacks, enjoy a little entertainment, and make an informed decision on April 4th.
This event is free and open to the public.
