The fan favorite is returning! On Saturday, October 18, the Athol Public Library and Hero Shack Press are teaming up for the return of Comic Book Fest. The team is working hard to transform the Athol Town Hall into a comic book lover’s dream. With comics, vendors, cosplay, games, crafts, demonstrations, competitions, and more there will be something for everyone at this family friendly event.
This year 20 local and independent artists and authors will be showing their work in Liberty Hall. Alongside the returning crew, five artists will be making their Comic Book Fest debut. His and Hers Comics and Holey Moleys will be selling pop culture items including mainstream comics while the Friends of the Athol Public Library will be selling snacks and refreshments. The Athol Teen Advisory Council, North Quabbin Gaming Guild, and Launch Space will also be in attendance to join in the fun. In addition, visitors can look forward to a guess who challenge, a themed scavenger hunt, and face painting by Deborah and Lahri.
During the festival there will be a drawing demonstration by Cyclopian author Christopher Tamulevich and a Q&A session with Colleen AF Venable by the main stage. There will also be a live drawing competition where participating artists will draw prompts from the audience on the spot in a sketch off. Later in the afternoon guests of all ages can show off their costumes and handiwork during the afternoon’s all ages cosplay contest. Registration for the contest ends at 12:45 and the contest begins at 1pm. A full schedule of events will be available on the library’s website and social media pages prior to the event.
As they participate in the activities and visit the various artists, visitors will have the opportunity to earn tickets that they can enter into raffles for signed prints, exclusive comics, collectables, and more.
The Comic Book Fest will take place at the Athol Town Hall, 584 Main Street, on Saturday, October 18. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop by and enjoy the festivities from 10am to 3pm. Admission and activities are free and open to all ages.
