The Athol Public Library is in need of volunteers for Community Reading Day at the Athol Community Elementary School and the Royalston Community School. This annual event is a collaborative effort between the Athol Public Library, the Phinehas Newton Library, and the school district.

This year Community Reading Day will take place on the Friday before “Read Across America Day,” which is March 1. Reading will take place from 9 am – 10 am in classrooms, except for afternoon preschool readings, which will take place later in the day.

The choice for grades 3-4 is Magic Trash: A Story of Tyree Guyton and His Art, by J.H. Shapiro, and the book for PreK-2 is Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood, by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell.

An orientation session for readers will be held at the Athol Public Library on Monday, February, 25 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Children’s Library.

Library staff will offer background information on the author and a list of suggested activities. If you would like to volunteer to read, please call Angela Dumas at the library at 978-249-9515.
