Dear PC Doctor:
I have a new computer. I would like one of the programs to open up automatically when I turn on the computer. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks, Matthew
Dear Matthew:
Yes – That’s called “Start-up Items.” If you are always opening the very same programs when you boot up your computer, it can be handy to have them start automatically. Programs or shortcuts placed in the “Startup” folder will run when Windows starts.
To set a program to start up automatically when you turn on your computer, do the following:
In the bottom left of your screen, click the “Start” button (or the orb). Choose “All Programs.” Right-click the folder labeled “Startup” and click “Open.” Open the location on your computer that contains the item you want to create a shortcut to. Right-click the item. Choose “Create Shortcut.” Drag the new shortcut icon into the Startup folder. The next time your computer starts Windows, the program will open automatically.
Until next time … Happy Computing!
