Photographs by Mitch Grosky. Reception: Tuesday, May 3 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Photographer Mitchell R. Grosky will be the featured artist for the month of May at the Athol Public Library. Grosky, a retired teacher and principal in the Athol-Royalston Schools, will present his collection of 20 museum-quality photographic canvases in a collection he calls “The North Quabbin and Beyond: A Photographic Tribute” is based on his recently released book by the same name.
Grosky is a highly respected landscape and travel photographer who has lived in Athol—with his wife and family--for the past 37 years. He is known for capturing beauty, character, and uniqueness in landscapes, cityscapes, and nature as he travels throughout New England, the rest of our glorious country, the Caribbean, and Europe. His exhibition "The North Quabbin and Beyond" focuses on the special beauty of our own area of Massachusetts.
Grosky’s work features the golden sunshine of late afternoons in small towns and villages, as well as the grandeur of majestic mountains, and the rushing of cool streams and waterfalls. His photographs reveal vibrant, highly-saturated, bold colors, and the intricate patterns and textures found in both the natural and man-made worlds. His photography often draws lavish praise for his use of various shades and colors of light and his nearly three-dimensional use of texture.
Grosky’s photographs have been featured on a wide variety of photographic or travel websites in the United States and in Europe, and his photographic museum-quality canvases elegantly grace the walls of homes throughout the world. His work has appeared in newspapers, in local exhibitions, and in art/craft fairs throughout the area.
Grosky says that the book—and this Athol Library Art Exhibition--represent the culmination of his efforts, over the past two decades, to capture all that makes this area so special to him, to those who live here, and to those who visit here.
An artist’s reception will be held on Tuesday, May 3, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the library, at 568 Main St. Light refreshments will be served, and visitors will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the photographer. The recently published book, “The North Quabbin and Beyond: A Photographic Tribute” will also be available for purchase and autographing.
The photographic exhibition will also be available for viewing from Monday through Friday for the entire month of May during regular library hours.
