Dear PC Doctor:
I turned on my computer at work this morning and the screen said “Updating BIOS 02.12.00”, then the screen changed a few times. It said something like ‘Any interruption will render your system un-functional.’ It looked like a scam but no one else was in the office and I didn’t know what to do so I let it run its course. The computer restarted and it seem ok, but this was so weird. Do you have any information about what just happened?
Thanks, HP Uneasy
Dear HP Uneasy:
According to HP, BIOS stands for “Basic Input Output System.” It’s firmware that engages as the first part of booting up your computer. When a new BIOS update becomes available, the HP support assistant typically installs it for you. It sounds like that’s probably what happened. If your computer is working as you expect it to, you are probably just fine!
I hope this helps.
Until next time,
Happy Computing!
