Artist’s Reception October 10 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m

Join the Athol Public Library on October 10th at 5:00, as we welcome artist Jane Duderstadt.

Jane grew up in a small farm town in Missouri and studied art at Stanford University and the Boston Museum School.  Duderstadt has been working as an artist for 40 years, exhibiting in Boston, central Massachusetts, and New York.  She worked many years in the Vernon St. Studios in Somerville where her art reflected urban subjects. In 1992 she moved to the village of Petersham in central Massachusetts and her subjects became the many vegetable and flower gardens she and her husband Bill grow and the woods and natural habitat of the area.

The real subject of Jane’s work is the color and shape and how it can create movement and energy.  Originally she worked in oils, but many years ago discovered the liberation of working with paper and scissors.  Duderstadt paints the paper she uses in her collages, then cuts shapes which she moves around until getting the desired images.  Then she experiments with combinations until sensing an excitement and unity in the work.

Recently, Duderstadt has moved away from flatness and is weaving and folding the paper and who knows what’s next!  She views art as a process which hopefully leads to progress and ultimately change--like life.

The exhibit, in the library conference and program rooms, will be up from October 3rd through November 28.  A reception will be held on Tuesday, October 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. All are welcome.
