We'll discuss Roberta Gately's fascinating look at life post-9/11 in her novel Lipstick in Afghanistan. This book was inspired by the author's real-life experiences as a nurse in third world war zones. The author, Roberta Gately, will be joining us and facilitating the discussion! Ms. Gately will also be available to sell and autograph copies of her book.
Lipsticktells the story of a Boston ER nurse, who travels alone to war-torn Afghanistan in the wake of 9/11. She struggles to prove herself to the Afghan doctors and local villagers, she begins a forbidden romance with a Special Forces soldier, and begins a life-changing friendship.
Roberta Gately has served in 3rd world war zones ranging from Africa to Afghanistan. She has written on the subject of refugees for the Journal of Emergency Nursing and the BBC World News Online. She speaks regularly on the plight of the world’s refugees and displaced.
