Who is reading The Orchard now?
Athol Public Library employee Kelsey Matthews is checking out a copy of the book The Orchard by Adele Crockett Robertson for Janet Goldsmith. This is the book which has been selected for the library On the Same Page community reading program. It is a memoir written by a woman who struggled to keep a family orchard going in Ipswich, Massachusetts during the Great Depression. The unfinished manuscript for this book was discovered by the author’s daughter, under a pile of paper and old phone books after her mother’s death in 1979. It is the story of one woman’s courage and her devotion to her childhood home and farm. A discussion of the book featuring apple snacks will be held at the library on Tuesday, February 2 from 5:30 to 6:30. In the event of snow, the discussion will be held on Tuesday, February 16 from 5:30 to 6:30. Copies of the book are available to check out at the library. Call 978-249-9515 for more information.
