Dear PC Doctor:

When I am writing something for the public and I want to reference a website, Word keeps automatically changing the URL to the name of the website page and a hyperlink. This is nice when I am writing for the internet, but sometimes I want the actual URL to show because I will be handing out printed copies of the document. I have searched the Word help menu and come up with nothing. It’s maddening! Do you have any ideas?

Thanks,

Printy

Dear Printy:

Yes, it can be annoying when a piece of software thinks it knows what you want and gets it wrong! The easiest solution I have found is for you to copy the URL you want to share, open Notepad, paste the URL into Notepad, and then copy the resulting plain text to paste it into your document that will be printed. It may not be elegant, but it works every time!

I hope this helps!
Until next time,
Happy computing!
