Dear PC Doctor:
I use Chrome (like everybody) to access the internet, but a friend uses Vivaldi and another Duck Duck Go. I had never heard of these before. Are there a lot of browsers? Does it make a difference which one you use?
Thanks,
Jim
Dear Jim:
A browser is software that lets your computer (or another device) connect to the world wide web. Chrome is a browser. You might remember oldies like Netscape and internet Explorer, which aren’t much in use anymore. They were browsers, too.
Now, we have Safari, Chrome, Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Vivaldi, Tor, and so many more. How to choose the one to use? To make that decision, you’ll want to look at features, customization, how easy it is to use, security, and other criteria.
Do a search with whatever browser you’re using now, and look at comparisons of various browsers. You may be surprised how many choices there are. Ultimately, it comes down to which one offers the experience that feels most comfortable for you.
I hope this helps!
Until next time,
Happy computing!
