Fine Free!
The Athol Public Library is now fine FREE!
We are excited to announce that the library is fine free on most of our materials!
Why go fine free? Nationwide statistics have shown that the threat of fines didn’t help get materials back in time. Instead, they kept people from borrowing the books and other items they need. We want everyone to use the library! If you have an overdue book, simply bring it back. We don’t want fines to keep anyone from using these resources that belong to all of us.
There are a few exceptions. Patrons with overdue equipment and museum passes will be charged 1 dollar per day (no maximum) and overdue Mass. Dept. of Conservation & Recreation State Park Passes will accrue overdue fees of $8.00 per day (no maximum). The fines for mediated interlibrary loans continue to be 10 cents per day for regular materials (no maximum) and $5 per day for audiovisual materials (no maximum).
