Dear PC Doctor:

I turned on my computer and got this message: “Bootmgr is missing.” It also said, “Press CTRL+Alt+Del to restart.” I did that, but the same thing came up again. What can I do?

Thanks,

Meg

Dear Meg:

These instructions are from the Microsoft help web pages.

Do you have your operating system installation disc? If you do, put it in the disc drive. Then, start the computer. You should get a message asking you to press any key to boot the computer from the DVD. Go ahead and press any key. Read any messages that appear on the screen and follow the instructions they give. Eventually, you should see an option to “Repair your computer.” In the “System Recovery Options” box, select the drive of your Windows installation, and click “next.” Then choose “Repair your computer.” Select the operating system that you want to repair, and choose “Next.” Then choose “Startup Repair.” If this doesn’t work,

There are a few more options on the support.microsoft.com page. If none of those work, you may want to visit your local computer repair person.

Until next time,
Happy computing!
