Dear PC Doctor:
I forgot my Apple ID password and I want to reset it. Is there a way?
Thanks,
Elle
Dear Elle:
Your Apple ID is the account that you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. It includes the email address and password that you use to sign in as well as all the contact, payment, and security details that you use across Apple services.
If you’ve forgotten your Apple ID password, you have some options: The easiest is to use another device that is signed in to your Apple ID account. If your phone or tablet (or other Apple device), for example, is always signed in to your Apple ID account, you can do the following: Go to Settings. Tap your name > Password & Security > Change Password. Follow the onscreen instructions to reset your password.
If you don’t have another Apple device of your own, you can use someone else’s or visit an Apple Store. On the borrowed device, open the Apple Support app on the borrowed Apple device. If needed, you can download the Apple Support app from the App Store. Tap Passwords & Security > Reset Apple ID password > Get Started. Tap "A different Apple ID." Enter your Apple ID and follow the onscreen instructions to reset your password.
If neither of these options is possible for you, Apple Support recommends the site iforgot.apple.com. You’ll have to enter the email address associated with your Apple ID and then answer a bunch of security questions before getting to change your password.
I hope this helps!
Until next time,
Happy computing!
