Dear PC Doctor:

I have a new Kindle Fire and I’m so excited to start listening to digital audiobooks with my library card and the Libby app! I’m following the directions on the Libby Overdrive website (https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby/kindlefire) but I just can’t get it to work. This is so frustrating! Can you help?

Thanks,
Ready to Read

Dear Ready:

You are going to love reading and listening with Libby!

Though it’s a seamless process with other phone and tablet formats, the Amazon Kindle does take a few extra steps to get set up. Our local librarians have noticed that two key settings need to be right in order for Libby to work on your Kindle. Before trying to add the app, go to your Settings, choose Security (or Applications) and then choose Enable Apps from Unknown Sources. (You’ll want to disable this after Libby is installed.) Next, go to Settings, then Storage, then Enable Storage. After you do this, you should be able to follow the steps on the Overdrive website. If you’d like help, drop by the Athol Library upstairs circulation desk. There’s also a printed set of instructions you can pick up there.

Until next time,
Happy Computing (and Happy Reading!)
PC Doctor
