Dear PC Doctor,

I have a problem for you. Somehow, over time, I have ended up with many “toolbars” in Internet Explorer. There is so many that it is a complete mess. I do not ever use them and I was hoping I could somehow get rid of them. I thought I might try asking you before I deleted Internet Explorer off my computer.

Dear Darla,

Phew! Good thing you did ask me first because, yes, I do know how to get rid of toolbars in Internet Explorer.

First step: Click on Tools in the Menu bar at the top of the window. From there, click on “Manage add-ons”. This will open a new window and you will need to click on “Toolbars and Extensions” on the left side of the screen. There's a drop down menu below; be sure to set it to show all add-ons. Now you can start the removal process. There will be a list of all the add-ons (aka toolbars) in the middle of the window. Select the toolbar you want to remove and click “Disable” in the lower right. A pop up will ask you if you are sure, click yes or disable. Repeat for all the offending add-ons and you will soon have a happy new Internet Explorer!

Protip: You can also disable/remove toolbars by uninstalling them in Programs in Features on your computer!
