Dear PC Doctor:

Someone told me you can make a telephone call with sound through Facebook. How do I do that?

Signed, Talkative

Dear Talkative:

Your friend may be thinking of Facebook video calling. You can video chat with just one person, or with a group of people.

Facebook has offered free video calling on its desktop platform since 2011 through a partnership with Skype. That feature allows Facebook users to call one another directly from within the Facebook chat area and activate a video connection so they can see each other while they talk.

The information that follows is from Facebook’s help site (https://www.facebook.com/help/439078162792430/).

Log in to Facebook and open messenger. Choose the friend you want to call. You have to have your Facebook chat turned on, and the friend you want to call has to be logged into Facebook, too.

Click on your friend's name in the chat interface, and then click the little video camera icon. You will launch a video connection which will use your computer’s webcam. If you don't have a webcam, your friends will be able to hear you but not see you.

I hope this helps!
Until next time,
Happy Computing!
