Dear PC Doctor,

Whenever I wake my Windows 7 computer up from sleeping, I get a pop up from my photo sharing software on the bottom right of my screen.  It won't go away until I click twice to close it.  I like to keep the software running since it makes it easier to upload my pictures but the pop ups really annoy me.  Is there a way to turn off the pop ups?

Dear Zach,

You'll be glad to know that yes, there is a way to turn off pop ups or as they are known - taskbar notifications for your photo sharing software, plus any other software that is left running.

On your computer, go down to the right hand side of your screen and click the little arrow next to your taskbar icons, located right next to the time.  This opens a little window showing more icons including the text “Customize”.  Click Customize and a new window for “Notification Area Icons” will appear.  Scroll through the list and find your photo sharing software.  In the drop-down menu next to the software, select the option labeled “Hide icon and notifications”.  Click OK to save and close the window.  Restart your computer to save your settings.

I find it very helpful to turn off everything except the notifications that I really need.
