Program: Séances: Searching for the Spirits!
Thursday, October 23 @ 6:00 p.m. Registration Required!
Rory Raven wowed us and blew our minds away with his Mind Mentalist program in 2008. Let’s see what he has in store for us in 2014!
What do Queen Victoria, Charles Dickens, Abraham Lincoln, and Mae West have in common? They all went to séances! Join mentalist Rory Raven at the library on Thursday, October 23 at 6:00 p.m. as he traces the history of the Spiritualist movement, looking at the famous and infamous characters and historical figures involved during his program, Séances: Searching for the Spirits. This is a 60-minute program designed for those who want to learn more about the history of séances. This talk will be from a skeptical point - of - view. Mr. Raven discusses the fakery involved. Disclaimer: This is a historical program and NOT a live séance.
Topics discussed involve the social and philosophical movement that surrounded séances, and the famous people who attended them. He will discuss what happened in the séance room, which is different from what most people think occurred. There will be demonstrations of what went on in the séance chamber, including some examples of the trickery that took place.
Rory Raven has a life-long interest in all things psychic and paranormal. This led him to pursue a career as a mentalist and mindbender. Rory’s work has brought him to a number of wonderful places over the years including Salem, MA, and Istanbul, Turkey. He has performed for educational groups, nightclubs, champion bridge players, and our very own library.
All of Rory’s talks are fun, interactive, and include demonstrations of the apparently impossible.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Athol Public Library, this program is free and open to the public. Due to popularity of programs, registration is required; there will be a sign-in table at the door. For more information or to register please contact the Athol Public Library at (978) 249-9515.
