Summer Reading Kickoff

Stop by the library's park any time during our big summer reading kickoff celebration to sign up for summer reading, play games, get free books and goodies, and even take a photo with a dinosaur!

Animal World Experience

Thursday, June 24, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Matt Gabriel will be bringing seven exciting mystery animals to the park behind the library. This interactive educational program will delight animal lovers, while teaching about responsible pet ownership and conservation.

Henry the Juggler

Monday, June 28, 10:30 am – 11:15 am

Henry the Juggler (alias Henry Lappen) is considered armed (and legged) and dangerous. He is known to cause spontaneous outbursts of laughter. He speaks little, but says a great deal through his expression and body language (and road signs!). He has in his possession BALLS, CLUBS, RINGS, TORCHES and other apparatus of his trade. He is capable of walking on a thin wire high above the ground. He is known to change his height through the use of stilts.

WARNING: Henry involves innocent bystanders in his act.

Our sweet friends, Hunter the Dog and Amanda, are back for Paws to Read! Therapy dogs provide a safe and non-judgmental space for readers to improve their skills. Participants will pick out a library book and then read it to Hunter for fifteen minutes.

Registration is Required – call the Children’s Room at 978-249-9515 to sign up for a time slot.

Life Size Candy Land

Friday, July 9, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm (Rain Date: July 16)

Become the game pieces and collect candy from life-sized characters as you move around the board.

Fairy Houses with Nina

Thursday, July 15, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Rain Date: July 22)

Have you ever wanted to build a Fairy House or a Gnome Home? How about a Mini-World for your favorite miniature toys? In this workshop, Nina will show us how to build a house for the fairies, gnomes, and critters who might be visiting your yard!

Participants will watch Nina's demonstration, start their own house, and then go home with materials and ideas so they can finish up on their own. Fairy House builders will also be invited to set up their creations for a special event in August, hosted by the Garlic & Arts Festival.

LEGOs in the Park

Come play with LEGOs in the park! Each kid will get one small bag of LEGOs to build with during the program that they may take home and keep.

Fossils Rock

Tuesday, July 20, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Virtual – Zoom

Meet us on Zoom for a hands-on educational program, where we’ll dig for fossils like real paleontologists! Each participant will receive a digging block with fossils buried inside and a fossil identification sheet. We'll do a short educational presentation on fossils and then get to digging!

Pet Show & Tell

Tuesday, August 3, 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

We want to meet your pets! Join us on Zoom, bring your furry friends, and get ready to tell us all about them! Don't have a pet? Show off your favorite stuffed animal or draw a picture of an imaginary pet you'd like to have and tell us about them.

Unicorns: Break the Cage (from Talewise)

"Two curious kids discover what they think is a unicorn. But unicorns aren't real...are they?! Sometimes you gotta believe it, to see it."

This program from Talewise includes a fun, interactive animated video that will teach kids science concepts through story! After the video, kids will break out into groups to try fun experiments related to the video.

Mini Golf

Friday, August 13, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Celebrate the end of summer reading with 9 holes of professionally crafted mini golf set up throughout the library.
